Quick Tips

  • Construction Drawing scales and matchlines should be the same between disciplines…
  • Elevation conventions should be coordinated during Design Development. Civil should be have the true elevation (above sea level), and conventions for the ground floor and those above and below grade, should reference the Civil drawing (for true elevation) and be consistent between Architectural, Civil, Landscape, and other disciplines.
  • Take care to coordinate plumbing inverts, underground utility lines, and drain elevations between Civil, Landscape and M/E/P. Select a discipline that will be responsible for dimensioning drain locations and setting elevations. On Podium type structures, coordinate drain locations and waterproofing details with the Structural Engineer as well as supporting beams may need sleeving to maintian proper slope for above-grade storm lines.

After 30+ stores, our client CarMax revamped the design and prototype control for the projects and asked us to employ a new single architectural firm to move the project into their next growth phase. Your services for each of these projects has been critical to providing a seasoned eye to look through our documents, and to point out the benefits that the team could obtain through minor changes.

Additionally, your reviews are a good point of coordination between the various design disciplines, which invariably are a source of field changes once the construction phase of the project begins.
I believe that your reviews are educational to our group, along with being practical, in that we can deal with design issues early on in the construction process versus having them impact the project and the critical construction schedules.

I appreciate your involvement on our team. I do believe that your services will be critical to our success with CarMax and various other clients as we move forward in our facility delivery program.
Thank you again for your work.
